Wild Camping

For those who love to be far from the madding crowd and at one with nature, wild camping at Old Brook Farm offers the ultimate antidote to the hustle and bustle. With a choice of two delightfully secluded locations to pitch your tent, you may fall asleep to the nocturnal sounds of the nightjar and tawny owl, or the gentle flow of the River Mardle.

The Hay Meadow Field offers breathtaking views of Dartmoor National Park and is easily accessed from the adjacent country lane. The River Mardle pitch is positioned next to a natural river pool—sometimes called a fairy pool—and ideal for wild swimming enthusiasts. It is also the location where medieval monks from Buckfast Abbey kept bees for pollinating their orchard!

Both exclusive-use sites enjoy the best of both worlds: the tranquillity of nature undisturbed, but with modern conveniences close by. Campers have access to a fully plumbed loo and sink, and a water tap for refilling canisters.

Hosts, Tom & Victoria, are on hand if needed, and can provide a firepit and logs or farm fresh eggs at a small additional cost.

Wake up to beautiful birdsong, then take a stroll with binoculars or a river dip, and enjoy sundowners by a fire pit reminiscing on the day’s adventure. Both pitches provide the perfect base camp from which to go hiking, climbing, birding or biking. And, if you’re keen to explore more than the moor, Old Brook Farm is just a short drive from some idyllic beaches, and a fabulous selection of local pubs, restaurants and interesting shops showcasing local art and traditional crafts.
